A passion for football comes as naturally as the heat in Atlanta, Georgia. Locals live for the Falcons and they are rewarded with high-flying offensive action that is befitting to their name.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Established: 1965
  • Stadium: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Team colours: Black, red, silver, white
  • Head coach: Dan Quinn
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Conference Championships: 1
  • Division Championships: 6
  • Play-offs appearances: 13

Atlanta have reached the Super Bowl once in their 50-year history. A conference-winning season in the NFC in 1998 pitched them against Denver in the big game, but they succumbed to a 34-19 defeat as the Broncos retained their Super Bowl title.

Since then, they have won the NFC South division four times and reached the playoffs seven times on the hunt for their first national championship.

Atlanta's legendary long-time home, the Georgia Dome, saw its last season of professional American Football in 2016, as its replacement, the nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium, nears completion. The state-of-the-art building, which has a retractable roof, is already scheduled to host Super Bowl 53 in 2019.

Georgia Dome hosted two Super Bowls in six years - once in 1994 and again in 2000, the first of the 21 st century - but it was deemed to be ageing and unfit for the Falcons some years ago. Quarterback Matt Ryan, who was drafted third overall by the Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft, is up there alongside New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees and New England Patriots' Tom Brady as one of the highest-rated QBs in the league.

He made a serious case for NFL MVP in 2016 by leading the Falcons into the playoffs at 11-5 as the highest-scoring team in the entire league. And he's only 31-years- old.
